Firewall, Security, and Anti-virus Help

Please take some time to follow the instructions for setting up your computer to work with EV360 Ultimate. You will want to make sure your firewall, security, and anti-virus software are configured to allow our software to work smoothly.

When your firewall, security, and anti-virus software are properly configured, it should allow EV360 Ultimate to install onto your computer properly, log into your account, authenticate your subscription modules, turn on your subscription dictation packages, and allow our steaming audio, video, and text media content to efficiently work within EV360 Ultimate.

This guide provides information about some of the firewall, security, and anti-virus programs we are familiar with that have needed additional configuration for EV360 Ultimate and offers instructions to assist you in getting everything properly configured. If you get stuck or have questions, click the "Contact technical support" link on the EV360 Ultimate sign on dialog box and someone from our support team will be in touch.  When your firewall, security, and anti-virus software are properly configured, you should be able to install, run, and periodically update EV360 Ultimate on your computer.

The two EV360 Ultimate program files that need to be added as exclusions to your firewall, security, and anti-virus software are:

One of the most frequent questions is why my audio won't load today when it loaded yesterday. Typically this occurs as a result of the following:

  1. You may have received an update for your security software, which is now blocking EV360. The sections below will help you to configure some of the more popular brands.
  2. You are at an office/school setting using a restricted Wi-Fi connection? If so, that location may be blocking our streaming media server. If this is the case, please ask an administrator to add the following to NOT be blocked:
    • IP Address: 74.208.17.116
  3. You may have malware on your computer. One program that is helpful in removing malware is www.malwarebytes.com.

Not everything that Malwarebytes 3 detects is a malicious program. Sometimes programs that we use daily get flagged and Malwarebytes 3 will try to remove it. To avoid this, we will create exclusions for these programs to have these skipped during the next and subsequent scans that will be executed. The Malwarebytes 3.0 Exclusions tab allows additions to, or deletions from a list of items to be excluded from scans. The list may include files, folders, websites, applications which connect to the Internet, or previously detected exploits. A screenshot is shown below.

To access the exclusions in Malwarebytes 3:
1. Click on the Settings tab in the left pane.
2. Click on the Exclusions tab.

Clicking the Add Exclusion button allows an exclusion to be added to a list of items which will be excluded from scanning. Each item type is defined by criteria as follows:

Exclude a File or folder: Its location on the file system, and whether it should be excluded from malware and ransomware, only malware or only ransomware. Please note that selecting a folder for exclusion will also cause every file in that folder as well as any sub-folders and files contained within those sub-folders to be excluded. While you may have your own reasons for excluding files or folders from scans, the primary reason for doing so is to prevent potential conflicts with anti-virus software. Malwarebytes works well alongside most anti-virus software, but anti-virus updates by some vendors may occasionally be flagged as a threat. For this reason, we offer the provision for you to exclude certain disk content from scanning. This is commonly offered by anti-virus vendors as well.

1. Select Exclude a File or Folder from the Exclusion type window.
2. Click the Select Files button to the right to add individual files or the Select Folder button to add a folder.
3. Under How to Exclude, select the criteria desired to include in the exclusion being added then click OK.

  • Exclude from both malware and ransomware protections

  • Exclude from malware protection only

  • Exclude from ransomware only

When launching certain applications, McAfee's real-time security module may detect false positives and prevent the applications from running normally. To ensure you don't end up with misleading pop-up warnings or improperly quarantined files, add your trusted applications to the McAfee Real-Time Scanning's exclusions list. Further, if any applications have trouble connecting to online services, add those applications as exceptions to the McAfee firewall to grant them uninterrupted access to the Internet.

Step 1: Open your McAfee AntiVirus Plus, Internet Security or Total Protection application, and then click the Navigation option.

Step 2: Scroll down in the Navigation Center and then select Real-Time Scanning.

Step 3: Select Excluded Files and then click the Add File button.

Step 4: Select the executable file of the application that you want to add, and then click Open. For example, to add Mozilla Firefox as a trusted application, navigate to the Mozilla Firefox folder, located by default under the Programs Files or Programs Files (x86) folder of your Windows installation, and then select the Firefox file.  The two files to be added as exclusions for EV360 Ultimate are:

          C:\Program Files (x86)\ev360Ultimate\ev360u.exe

Step 6: Open the Navigation Center on your McAfee AntiVirus Plus, Internet Security or Total Protection application and then select Firewall.

Step 7: Select Internet Connections for Programs and then click the Add button.

Step 8: Use the Browse button to select the executable file of an application. Select Incoming and Outgoing to grant the application full access through the firewall, or select Outgoing Only to only allow outgoing traffic.

Norton AntiVirus or Norton Security might alert you that a file or folder has a virus even though you know it doesn't. This is called a false positive and can be very annoying. Fortunately, you can force the program to ignore those files/folders.  Like most good antivirus programs, the Norton AV software lets you exclude files and folders from being scanned. What this does is essentially tells the software to no longer look at that file/folder.  It blocks it from the program's view so that it won't tell you whether there's a virus there or not.

These are the steps for excluding custom files and folders from Norton Security, but it should work similarly in other versions of Norton's AV software:

1. Open the Norton antivirus software.
2. Select Settings.
3. Choose the Antivirus option from the Settings screen.
4. Go into the Scans and Risks tab.
5. Find the Exclusions/Low Risks section.
6. Click Configure [+] next to the option that you want to make changes to. There are two sets of options here; one is for exclusions to antivirus scans and the other is for exclusions to the real-time protection features of the Norton software, like Auto-Protect, SONAR, and Download Intelligence Detection.
7. From the exclusions screen, use the Add Folders and Add Files buttons to make new exclusion rules.  The two files to be added as exclusions for EV360 Ultimate are:
          C:\Program Files (x86)\ev360Ultimate\ev360u.exe
          C:\Program Files (x86)\ev360Ultimate\wyUpdate.exe
8. Be sure to click OK in the exclusions window to save the changes.
9. At this point, you can exit any open windows and even close down or minimize the Norton software.

Excluded items will not be seen by Norton antivirus software, and will therefore not be protected by the program.
